It was this search that led him to Engel Jones, a prominent figure in podcast interview marketing and online visibility. Engel, originally from Trinidad and Tobago, built his reputation on empowering entrepreneurs to use podcast interviews. His 'Believe Be Real Be Bold' movement and his podcast, *12 Minute Conversations*, stand as a clear example of his vision. Junaid first met Engel when invited to be a guest on *12 Minute Conversations* during Engel's ambitious 2018 quest for 1001 conversations. That initial connection grew, leading to this long awaited discussion, now a deep dive into the essence of discovering one's true, unique self.

## The Unwavering Call to Purpose

Engel’s journey into the podcasting world began not with a timid step, but a bold stride. In 2016, he embarked on his goal of 1001 conversations. This led to a more ambitious 2017 with 18, and then a monumental 2018. That year, alongside his wife, he traveled across 48 states and Canada twice, meeting 349 past podcast guests. This sounds like an extraordinary undertaking, and it was. Yet, Engel clarifies that it began with baby steps. He could not have foreseen such a grand adventure in 2016, but each small action built towards it. This remarkable journey was also achieved without accumulating debt, a powerful lesson in intentional living.

Engel’s inspiration stemmed from a core realization: the concept of development through persistent action and testing. He considers himself a test subject, exploring questions like: “Am I strong enough to build a global brand?” “Is it possible from the Caribbean, from what some call a third world country?” “Is it truly possible with three children and a wife?” He sought to prove that if one consistently pursues a vision, it will come to fruition. His love for sharing ideas, previously channeled into sideline businesses, transformed in 2012 into an intentional investment in himself. This was the foundational commitment that propelled him and his wife forward for eight years, marking the true inspiration for all his undertakings.

> "I believe that is what I would say is the inspiration for all of this. I am really the test subject here for questions like am I strong enough or is my storage long enough to build an international brand a global brand. Like really? Is it strong enough? ... Is it possible to do this as a person who has three children and a wife, right? Like, is it possible? Yeah. Is it? Is it really possible if I consistently pursue a vision, that it will come to fruition and that it will come through?"

## Growth, Patience, and the Long Game

Junaid and Engel found common ground in the patience required for genuine growth. Engel drew an analogy from eating Portuguese guava, noting that the entire year is invested in producing one fruit. This machinery of the tree pulls what is necessary from the soil, all invested in producing something of value to living beings. He saw this as a parallel to human stories: we find our purpose and invest our entire being into bringing forth our fruit for others.

Junaid expanded on this, referencing the Chinese bamboo, which does not sprout for five years, instead building a robust root system. Only after consistent watering for five years does it shoot up exponentially. This illustrates that growth takes different amounts of time for everyone. This insight applies equally to education, personal development, and business. Understanding this long game perspective removes the pressure to rush. As Junaid noted, referencing Gary Vaynerchuk, it prompts us to consider the macro picture, what we will accomplish in 20 years, rather than focusing solely on the present year. Everything connects: plants, fruits, the human mind, and our life’s work.

This long term perspective also allows for the concept of "hacks" or "cheat codes." Engel considers his fast paced podcasting a hack. While it brought benefits quickly, he recognized that some elements, like detailed show notes, were not done at the time. He accepts that these tasks, which he skipped earlier, will need attention later. Yet, because these tasks align with his purpose of building relationships through meaningful conversations, they do not feel like painful chores. This shows that when actions are rooted in purpose, even delayed effort feels right. Consistency, in turn, refines processes, building habit and making future efforts easier. This consistency flows into all areas of life: mental, spiritual, career, physical, personal, financial, and family. Conversations on diverse topics contribute to this holistic growth.

## The Human Element: Building Teams and Heartfelt Connections

Engel’s unique approach extends to team building. Now a full time entrepreneur, having left his day job of nearly 20 years, he leads his business, a different endeavor than corporate employment. He emphasizes that he has not left a job to become an employee in his own business. He is fully invested in balancing startup demands with family life, making sure he builds his family alongside his business. He highlights the importance of creating a strong team, which for him includes his wife and children, and his professional staff, notably those in the Philippines.

He prefers to call his staff "team" or "family" rather than "virtual assistants," feeling the latter dehumanizes them. His mastermind group even called him the "VA whisperer" due to his ability to build strong connections. The cultural differences between Trinidad and the Philippines are bridged by one unifying element: **the heart**. Engel believes in leading with his heart in all interactions, a stark contrast to the often "cool as ice popsicle" corporate environments he once knew. He consciously avoids replicating that cold system, choosing instead to build relationships rooted in warmth and compassion. This approach is central to his value system, fostering unlimited networks for others, reflecting his focus on self care, then his wife, then his children, and then his broader network of podcast connections.

> "I dislike the word virtual assistants. I think it puts in this type of it feels like a machine, right? Like, yeah, my VA will do that. Yeah, I like that. They are part of my team. They are part of my family, because businesses that you build a team, it is your family. You are going to be in therapy, and they are going to be in your opinion and supportive in that. So they are there. My team is, it is there. They are amazing. But of course, there are cultural shifts right? From being in the Philippines to meet in Trinidad. And the thing that has connected us is the heart. The heart is the thing I speak with my heart most times."

## The Daily Pursuit of Self and Universal Connection

Engel’s daily motivation is deeply rooted. Each morning, he practices gratitude, offering thanks three times. He recently wrote in his journal: "Thank you, Lord, for dear life. There is one day I will not see another through the lens of this body." This sentiment aligns with Junaid’s own reflections on quantum mechanics and the interconnectedness of all beings, suggesting a spiritual and nonphysical bond between people. Engel has experienced this synchronicity in his podcasting, noticing themes emerging from conversations with people across the world, confirming a deeper level of connection.

This awareness leads to a profound message for his audience: **you are good enough**. The version of yourself available right now is sufficient to begin. That starting point is fertile ground, ready for your roots to grow, enabling you to become all you are meant to be. Beyond his core work, Engel also embraces simple passions. If he could pick a hobby he wished he pursued, it would be carpentry. The idea of transforming wood into beautiful and useful objects, like Junaid’s playset or intricate furniture, holds a strong draw. As a child, he envisioned himself as a scientist, delighting in laboratory experiments, a nod to his innate curiosity and love for discovery. His favorite movie, *Gladiator*, speaks to themes of struggle, resilience, and purpose. When asked what movie character he would play, he paused, then, with a chuckle, settled on a character from *Gladiator* despite the hardships portrayed, suggesting a deep appreciation for the film’s narrative. His favorite superhero is Jesus, whom he identifies as the ultimate conversation superhero, a leader with an efficient team who prioritized dialogue. If he were a board game, he would be Monopoly, which he finds to be a realistic reflection of life’s interactions.
