I uploaded about twenty solo episodes and went to make a cover for the first one.
PodGlue asked me for a guest name, a guest photo, a logo and a square template.
There was no guest. I didn't have a logo or templates either. What I did have was the show's cover art, the one I made when I set up the podcast.
What shipped
Any episode without a guest is now a solo episode in the cover generator. It doesn't matter whether you recorded it in PodGlue, uploaded it or brought it in from your feed.
Solo covers are built around the episode's topic, which PodGlue fills in from the title or summary. You can change it.
If you haven't saved a template, PodGlue uses your show's cover art as the style guide. The episode cover keeps your colours, your type and your show name, with a new layout for the episode.
There is also a Solo episode / With a guest switch at the top, for the times PodGlue guesses wrong.
What it looks like
I open a solo episode, go to Prepare, then Cover Generator. The topic is already there. I press Generate.
Out comes a square cover and a YouTube thumbnail in my show's style, and I didn't upload a single asset.
What's next
The show cover is a style guide, not a template, so each cover comes out a little different. If you want every cover laid out exactly the same, a saved template in Brand Assets still does that.
Next I want to make setting up that template as easy as this was.
If you have a back catalogue of solo episodes without covers, open one in PodGlue and see what it makes.
