Open an episode in PodGlue and there's a list down the left side. Prepare, Capture, Amplify, Insights. Click Amplify and ten tools unfold under it.
For months, the first one was Video & Trailer.
I never questioned that. It was the first Amplify tool I built, so it sat at the top, and every tool I added after it went underneath. Social Lab, then Carousels, then Email, then Launch Campaign. Ten tools, in the order I'd shipped them.
That's a changelog, not a menu.
What the first click was doing
Here's the part that bothered me once I saw it.
When you click Amplify, PodGlue doesn't just open the section. It picks a tool for you, the first one you're allowed into, and drops you in. So for a host with a fresh transcript, the first thing they saw after recording was the video tool.
The video tool needs your social copy to do its job well. So does the email tool. So do the carousels. Launch Campaign doesn't even write its own posts anymore; it picks up the ones Social Lab already wrote, because I'd already fixed that once.
So the door I was walking people through led to a room that was waiting on a different room.
The order the work actually happens in
I sat down and traced what each of the ten tools reads before it can do anything. Not what I thought they needed. What the code actually goes and fetches.
It came out clean.
Social Lab writes the copy. Email, Carousels, Video and Launch Campaign all read that copy. So Social Lab goes first, full stop. Then the image tools, which pull from the quotes and the cover. Then the two video tools. Then Launch Campaign, which takes everything above it and lays it out across weeks. Then Press Release, which is outreach and comes after you have something to point at. And last, Media Links, where you record where the episode ended up once it's out.
Write, then picture, then film, then plan, then pitch, then file. That's the sequence I've followed for 700-odd episodes without ever writing it down.
Now the menu follows it too.
A small change with one real effect
Nothing was renamed. Nothing moved between steps. If you had a link bookmarked to a specific tool, it still works.
The one thing you'll notice is the first click. Amplify now lands you on Social Lab, the tool the other nine are waiting on. Which is where you should have been starting all along.
I also pinned the order with a test, so the next tool I build has to be placed on purpose. No more appending to the bottom because that's where the cursor was.
What I keep relearning
The order you build things in is almost never the order people use them in. I know that. I've known it for thirty years of setting up rooms for other people's productions. And I still shipped a menu in build order and left it there for months, because it was mine and I'd stopped seeing it.
The fix took an afternoon. Noticing took longer.
If you're the kind of podcaster who wants the tool to follow your workflow instead of teaching you a new one, that's what PodGlue is trying to be. One small step closer this week.

The Episode Is Already There
A guest books. Their episode now exists before you've opened the app. Small change, and it removed a step I'd been doing hundreds of times without noticing.
