A few weeks ago I had a long call with a fellow podcaster, Matt. Somewhere in the middle he put on what he called his critical hat.
His worry was simple. Tools that do everything for you make hosts sound like everyone else.
He wasn't wrong. And when I went looking, I found a place where PodGlue was doing exactly that.
What was wrong
When you set up a new show in PodGlue, three guest emails switched on by themselves. The booking confirmation. The prep reminder two days out. The day-of reminder with the join link.
They're useful emails. Guests expect them.
But they went out in your name, with wording you may never have read.
That's the moment I write about in my book. A guest gets a message that doesn't sound like the person they just talked to, and they wonder if they've been moved into a pipeline.
What shipped
Those three emails are still set up for you. They just don't send until you've looked at them.
In Settings you'll see "3 guest emails are waiting for your review." Preview each one. Change the words if they don't sound like you. Then approve.
Editing an email counts as approving it. So does switching one on yourself.
If your show was already running, nothing changes. The emails you had on stay on.
A concrete example
Say your prep reminder says "Find a quiet space with good lighting." Fine. But you always ask guests to bring one story they've never told on a podcast.
Now that line goes in before anything sends. Your guest hears you, not a template.
What's next
Here's the line I'm holding PodGlue to.
Emails about the episode, like confirmations and reminders, can run on their own once you've approved them. Anything about the relationship, like a thank-you, a follow-up or an introduction, PodGlue drafts and you send.
PodGlue remembers and drafts.
You decide what your guest hears.

PodGlue tells you whether your guest already got the 'your episode is live' email. Unless you sent it yourself, in which case it told you nobody had.
The Guests I Never Told
PodGlue could email a guest when their episode went live. It just never did it for most of my guests, and I couldn't see which ones.
The Questions I Kept Forgetting To Send
PodGlue could email a guest their questions before the interview. It just needed me to remember. That turned out to be the whole problem.
