Your Name Should Be the Same in Every Room

PodGlue is a few apps wearing one name. The main app where you do the work. The guest surface where your public page lives. The community where people swap ideas.

I logged into all three last week, back to back, and they felt like three different products. Different front doors, different colors, different feel. Nobody planned that. It just happened, one app at a time.

Then I noticed something worse than the doors.

The same person had two names.

On your public guest page you are a handle. Mine is @superjunaid. That is the name on the page people read before they ever meet you.

But in the community, you were whatever display name you happened to type the day you signed up. So you could read someone's guest page, walk into the community, stand right next to them, and have no idea it was the same person.

That is a strange thing to do to a relationship business. The whole point of a handle is that it follows you.

So we fixed both.

Every login now looks like it came from the same company, because it did. Same branded screen, same logo, same dark mode, whether you are signing into the main app, the guest surface, or the community. One front door.

And your community identity is now your guest handle. The name on your public page is the name in the community. Click a handle in a thread and you land on that person's guest page. One person, one name, every room.

The part you cannot see: we backfilled everyone, so nobody had to do anything. You woke up already stitched together.

Here is the concrete version, with me as the guinea pig.

On my guest page I have been @superjunaid for a while. In the community I was just "junaid," a label I picked once and forgot. Two names for one guy.

Now I am @superjunaid in both places. Someone who reads my guest page and then sees me post in the community knows it is the same person without thinking about it. That recognition is small. It is also the entire game.

This is groundwork, not the finish line.

The handle is becoming the thread that ties a person across everything: the guest page, the community, the episodes they showed up on. Follow the handle, follow the relationship.

That has always been the belief underneath PodGlue. A podcast is not a pile of files. It is a roster of people you are in relationship with, and a relationship needs a name you can follow. We are just making the software agree with that.
