A thumbnail and a title do two different jobs. Most podcast thumbnails try to do both at once, and they do neither well.
What was wrong
The thumbnail was one generic prompt. PodGlue sent the image model a single line asking for an eye-catching thumbnail with bold text. The model drew everything, including the words. It also had no idea who was in the episode.
The title and the thumbnail said the same thing. When both repeat each other, you waste one of them.
The channels that do this well split the work. The thumbnail stops the scroll with emotion: one to three huge words and a big, expressive face. The title opens the curiosity gap with something specific. They never repeat each other.
What shipped
Thumbnail Studio now has a Make 3 thumbnails button on the YouTube tab. Each option is a pair: a thumbnail and the title written for it.
The face is real. If the episode has a guest, PodGlue finds their most expressive moments in your video. If it's a solo episode, it uses yours. If there's no video, it falls back to a headshot.
PodGlue cuts the person out, puts them in front of a scene about the topic, and typesets the words itself. No image model ever draws the text, so it's never misspelled.
Use this sets the thumbnail. Use title applies the title that goes with it. The Video tab shows the same three pairs, so you can test them against each other.
A concrete example
I ran it on Ar-Rahman, an episode of my 99 Names series. Three pairs came back with my face from the video, stacked poster-style words, and one colored accent word each.
They took about three minutes to appear, because the pictures are built in the background on a small server. You can leave the page and come back. That's slower than I'd like.
What's next
I want the phone-shaped clip thumbnails to use the same face engine, and I want a per-show tone setting, so a gentle show doesn't get shouty words.
I'd also like the three-minute wait to be closer to one. If you try it on an episode and a thumbnail looks off, tell me.
Don’t just read the build. Shape it.
